Hari ini kita akan membahas materi baru tentang Descriptive Text.
a. Definition of Descriptive Text
Descriptive Text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing. (Sebuah text untuk menceritakan seperti apa seseorang atau sesuatu itu. Tujuannya untuk menggambarkan dan mengungkapkan orang, tempat atau benda tertentu.)
b. Purpose of Descriptive Text
- To describe person, thing or place in specific. (Untuk mendeskripsikan orang, benda atau tempat secara spesifik)
- To describe a particular person, thing or place. (Untuk mendeskripsikan orang, benda, atau tempat secara umum)
c. Generic Structure of Descriptive Text
There are two generic structures of Descriptive Text:
- Identification: pengenalan objek atau hal yang akan dideskripsikan.
- Description: penginformasian ciri-ciri objek, misalnya sifat-sifat psikologis perilaku, tampilan fisik, dan yang lainnya secara spesifik.
d. Language Features of Descriptive Text
Descriptive Text biasanya menggunakan unsur kebahasaan sebagai berikut:
Noun: kata benda yang spesifik, misalnya my best friend, my dog, Borobudur Temple, dan lain – lain. Selain itu, terkadang juga menggunakan kata benda yang mendapat pemberian kata sifat, misalnya an intelligent student dan a big garden.
Simple present tense: menggunakan kata kerja bentuk pertama (verb1) dan juga kata kerja yang dapat menggambarkan keadaan objek atau mengisyaratkan kepemilikan, misalnya my house has 2 living rooms, Sinta is beautiful, dan lain – lain.
Adjective: kata sifat digunakan untuk menjelaskan objek.
Figurative language: menggunakan bahasa figuratif seperti simile atau metafora sebagai cara untuk memberikan ilustrasi perbandingan, misalnya: My throat is as dry as a dessert (tenggorokanku sekering gurun) ; Her skin is as white as cloud and smooth as water (kulitnya seputih awan dan selembut air).

My Chairmate, Dewi
I has best friend in my classroom. I share a chair with her. Her name is Dewi Irmaya. I always calling her Dewi. Dewi has small family. She lives with her parent and two sister. She always playing with them in park or garden. Dewi and I always share about what is being experienced. She is patient, friendly, and helpfull. she also like to eat fried potato in restaurant. That’s my best chairmate.
b. Descriptive Text about Animal
Elephant
Elephant is a herbivor animal and eat all almost all of the vegetations and fruits. They have almost hairless skin, wide ears, four legs, and long trunk. Elephants is known as the largest mammals. The elephants also have very sharp auditory because they have big and wide ears. By these ears, they can hear sounds from a distance about tens kilometer. At the back of the ears, they have one of the softest parts of their body which is called the knuckle. In a zoo, Mahouts (elephant trainers) use their feet to steer or give commands to the animal via tha knuckle. Now, they are a kind of protected animals because their population remains little in their habitat. Their population began to decline year by year.
c. Descriptive Text about Thing
My Classroom
My classroom is big, eat, neat, and clean. It is about 10x9 meters. The wall color is white. There are four glass doors and 6 windows. There are thirty desks for students and two desks for teachers. One teacher desk is in front of the class and another one is in the back. The students’ desks are grey and light blue. While the teachers’ desks are white and brown. All desks are made of wood and iron. There are two booksshelves and two whiteboards in front of thr class. I feel really comfortable to study in my classroom.
d. Descriptive Text about Place
Borobudur Temple
Borobudur tempe is one of the most beautiful tourist resorts in Indonesia. It is situated in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. It is a well known nineteenth century Mahayana Buddhist Temple. The landmark comprises of six square, nine stacked stages, and 3 handouts, beat by a focal vault. The sanctuary is enhanced with 2,672 alleviation boards and 504 Buddha statues. The focal vault is covered by 72 Buddha statues, each situated inside a punctured stupa. It is the world’s biggest Buddhist sanctuary on the world.
